Adjacent to the Glacial Drumlin State trail, Talbot’s Woods is in a prime location for recreation. The Glacial Drumlin State Trail is 47 miles, and it runs between the City of Waukesha to the east and the Village of Cottage Grove to the West. The trail is open year around to bicyclists, hikers, joggers, rollerbladers, and snowmobilers. Nature lovers can also enjoy the Kettle Moraine State Forest Southern Unit located four miles south of Dousman off Hwy 67.
Dousman is known for its annual July festival, Derby Days, held at Cory Park. Derby Days features the Wisconsin State Frog Jump, live music, games, carnival rides, a gigantic parade, and much more. On Wednesdays from May to October, browse the Dousman Farmer’s Market for home-grown and handmade items. Dousman Beer Gardens is another great summer/early fall community event.
Five miles to the north, you’ll find plenty of shopping and restaurants in nearby Oconomowoc and Summit. Enjoy Dairy Queen, Chili’s, Badger Burger, and Tropical Smoothie Café – just to name a few. Fleet Farm, Metro Market, Aldi, Dollar Tree, PetCo, Sendik’s, and many more stores are available in the area.
A short drive away, you’ll find downtown Oconomowoc filled with cute shops and restaurants. Being a part of Lake Country means there are plenty of lakes and beaches to cool off at during the summer. Lac La Belle offers many activities such as paddle boarding, kayaking, and canoeing! If you prefer to relax, pack a picnic basket and blanket and choose a spot on one of the sandy beaches. If you prefer non-water sports, check out Champion Field, Roosevelt Field & Park, or Fowler Park. These parks offer a wide variety of activities. Take a walk on one of the trails, practice some tennis with family or friends, or visit one of the great playgrounds the parks have to offer including the popular Imagination Station!
Speaking of playgrounds, the highly ranked Kettle Moraine schools are nearby. Dousman Elementary and Kettle Moraine Middle School are 2 miles from Talbot’s Woods. Kettle Moraine High School is an easy 10-minute drive east on Highway 18. St. Bruno’s Catholic Church and K4-8 School is also an option and is within 2 miles as well.
Talbot’s Woods is just minutes away from I-94 offering easy access to Madison and Milwaukee. Other neighboring communities such as Waukesha, Wales, and Delafield are easily accessible via Highway 18. Easily accessible via Highway 67 are the communities of the Village of Summit, Oconomowoc, and Watertown to the north and Ottawa and Eagle to the South.
With excellent school systems, shopping areas, and community festivals, Dousman is a great place to live!
